Rome, GA is the county seat of Floyd county, and has a population of around 36,300 people.

There are four institutions of higher learning in Rome, Georgia including Berry College, Shorter University, Georgia Northwestern Technical College and Georgia Highlands College.

Rome, Georgia was built on seven hills with a river running between them, which inspired the name, Rome, in commemoration of the city of the same namesake in Italy.

In 1929, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini gave Rome, GA a statue of Romulus and Remus nursing from a wolf. This was a symbol of the original Rome and further connected the two cities.
